Belfort out, Maia in!

In recent news originating from Tatame.com, Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort is out from his title contention bout with Anderson Silva due to an injury. Damian Maia was immediately tapped to replace Belfort for title contention.

Maia, a jiujitsu superstar will now take a crack at the 185lbs division king Anderson Silva for the middleweight championship of the world. Though still a bit lite in fruition, Damaian Maia is quite excited after getting the said bout.

In my opinion, Maia is still not ready for a title shot, but who is there to replace Vitor? I was thinking Sonnen, but he endured injuries after the last fight which makes it impossible to prepare for a Silva bout. So I guess putting Demaian Maia in front is the most logical choice. Bad for the UFC, but I still think it will be a solid card and UFC never disappoints.

Now am being more convinced of the fact that UFC limits their fighters in their backyard for the main reason that sparring alone can cause injuries which hurts the promotion badly, what more if fights were scheduled outside the UFC.. In one point UFC actually increases the quality of their fights giving fighters enough time to prepare well for his bout. If a fighter fights like 8-12 times a year, how long does he prepare and does he become fully recovered before a 2nd fight comes in? Well that decreases quality which the UFC avoids.

Damaian as I read about is already setting his mind preparing for his title bout, so I think it will still be an exciting match. If Damaian can take it to the ground, he has a chance, but standing up?? I think he’ll get knocked out by The Spider.
