Just got off with some news about K-1 World Max. I have been a fan of World Max since 2005 where the finals are often but not predictable to a few characters.
K-1 veterans Buakaw Por Pramuk, Andy Souwer and Masato were the most often pitted against each other either on a final or semi final match, and it shifts around these 3 who gets the title for world max. Usually there is a dark horse that is included to make it four but usually it’s really these 3 that shifts through the title.
Last year, I saw Artur Kyeshenko in the finals losing to Masato, beating Andy Souwer in the process.
This year, since Masato is in the process of retirement only 2 was familiar to me in the semi final bout for World Max.
Buakaw was defeated by Souwer via decision to advance him in the finals. Since Masato is not within the K-1 tournament this year, it was of 2 not known by me fighters fighting for the finals position to face Andy Souwer (actually it was these two who fought first before the souwer buakaw fight)
Anyway, a new fighter to me, Giogrio Petrosyan got into the finals. I am not sure if I have seen him before but his name rings a bell, but not that loud. Anyway, as mentioned, am just a World Max fan, and a big Masato fan. Since he was not in World Max 2009, it’s just the finals that interested me.
Coming back to the tournament, the finals was set and Giorgio Petrosyan was pitted against veteran and former champion Andy Souwer. The match was very technical as both fighters are more of analyze then bang than a 1-2 bang bang type of fighter. Giogrio got the best of Andy winning his first K-1 World Max title.
Great fight and awesome event!
