Was Vera Robbed?

This is the question most people and even Brandon Vera asks himself after the main event on the latest UFC, 105. I actually haven’t seen the whole event but found a way to view the Vera Couture fight in order for me to make my own commendations and opinions.

Couture vs Vera

Round 1: Vera throws a kick and Coutures pesters him on the cage with some dirty boxing. I would give the round to Couture.

Round 2: Vera hurt Couture badly on his ribs, Couture does throws some punches himself but Vera got the better of him. Vera for Round 2.

Round 3: All I saw was Couture pushing the pace more and gets hit along the way. He pounces more on Vera on which Vera ended up on the mount with Randy. Randy gave his back to escape which he did and threw some punches more that connects with Vera before the round ended. Tough call to make, but technically I give this round to Randy

That about sums it I think, Randy Couture by Unanimous decision. And I say this without any biase for 1, I am pinoy, 2 – I voted for Vera to win this fight.

Its just probably due to the most recent Machida error that people or even Brandon himself thought he was in the same position as Rua. But the Rua – Machida was way far from what I saw with Randy – Brandon fight.

Was a good night for Brandon, but it was just not enough. Kudos to Randy who was continuously impressed me ever since.

Note: The fans cheered when the decision went to randy (it booed machida way back UFC 104)

Couture vs. Vera Pre-fight Blog

It has not sync in to me until a couple of days ago how big UFC 105 is for the Philippine MMA community. Well for one the match up is somewhat intriguing being that Randy Couture just recently fought. A fight in which he lost to Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera, but in banging fashion.

Now why pit these 2 fighters right now inside the octagon is what intrigues me with the UFC.

UFC 105 for the Philippines

Well for 1 is that Brandon Vera is a legit Filipino who loves his country and countrymen being that he still carries the Filipino values with him wherever that might be and in this case, Manchester England. This is Vera’s 2nd main event of his career as the first one was when he fought Tim Sylvia back then.

I just can’t recall if there was a Countdown Show back then? But seeing Vera in a UFC countdown video makes it a much bigger impact to us Filipinos. Watch Countdown to UFC 105 in the UFC website and you will see what I mean. Now Vera is being promoted, being featured, being put in front of the spotlight and it really looks good for us Pinoys.

I sure hope that whatever the result is, people from all over will have a good impression on fighters coming from the Philippines. Well, we have Manny Pacquiao for sure which is actually has become a Legacy after his last bout. But that was Boxing. I hope Brandon would be the Manny Pacquiao of MMA or at least a Manny Pacquiao of MMA sprungs up.

UFC 105 on Couture

Randy is still at his peek and I am not sure why the sudden fight schedules came in but UFC 105 could be another run for the title for Randy whom which seeks glory in the 205 division. I believe that he will put everything on the line against Vera come fight night. 2 directions for Randy for this show down, if he comes short, that’s 3 consecutive losses, and probably a reason to hang the gloves having a good exit that young individuals are in a different level already. Another is that if he wins, he gets to crack the winner of the Shogun/Machida rematch which will be for another title fight.

Predictions

I like Randy a lot, but I am rooting for Vera this time. Not because he is just Filipino, but because I believe in him and that he has matured in the game that he will not commit the mistakes he did before in his career.
